A Sonnet of Christmas

With nutmeg and the jolliest of times
With cinnamon and chocolate and sweets
With wint'ry cold nipping balmiest of climes
And ham with everything, and other treats
'Tis good and fair that we should all rejoice
With all until the end of this good year
And lift up all our praises in loudest voice
And thank God for the blessings granted here
The children losing stockings 'bout the house
The waffles, bacon on Christmas Eve morn
The catching of a wily clever mouse
And  'membrance of the babe one dark night born
For every good and joyous happy face
We'll know God sent his son to grant us grace

Christmas

Pine smelling, cookies
Lights and swirling bright colors
Against a black sky

12.21.2006

Winter

Gray, pale, colorless
Bleeding hues characterless
Yet they bring Christmas

Bright cushion of snow
Like egret feathers resting
Quieting the world

The whiteness eludes
Beige and pale syrup reside
Yet on the wind, spruce

Butterfly wings

Tiny, delicate
Breathing with beautiful
Tragedy and life

Do You Care to Share Your Pear?

Do you care to share your pear?

No! I don’t want to share my pear!

Why don’t you want to share, little bear?
Because it is all mine, this pear.
But don’t you want to share and care?
No! I will not share or care!
Don’t you want to brush your hair?
No! I will just leave my hair!
Don’t you want to choose what you’ll wear?
No! I won’t wear, and I don’t care!
Don’t you want to go anywhere?
No! I won’t go, I don’t care where!
Even if the place has flair?
I don’t care if the place has flair!
And all your friends will glare
And you will not go anywhere
And your pear you will not share
Why, little bear?
Because I do not care to share.
Caring and sharing give you flair.
Ok, I guess, if they give me flair.
If it gives me flair I will share my pear
I will brush my teeth and comb my hair
I will choose what to wear
And then I will go everywhere
And I’ll make sure my friends don’t glare
I’ll do anything to get some flair
I will even share my pear

Smile

Smile…
Today’s your day the world is yours,
Anytime you feel like it, just reach for more
Reach up high, take a piece of the sky,
This is your life, no time to die.
Smile…

Everywhere you go, people are looking up to you,
You’re the superstar, you know everything it’s true
Your turn around and blink ‘cause it’s your face
You’re on every billboard in every place.
So enjoy it now and
Smile…

You’re in charge of everything
You’ve got all the world can bring
Inside you know there’s something more
Keep pretending you’re perfect to the core
And smile
Who knows what damage you can do
When the world really does revolve around you
Hold your head high, sing your songs
You’re going fast, it won’t take long
But you’ve got to keep
Smiling

Music Is

Music is feeling without words

What your heart tell you that you cannot quite say

Music is

The sky – never ending

Water – ever bending

A smile – full of everything untold

The future – full of wonders new and old

Lonely

I’m feeling lonely

Like a feather on the marsh

With nowhere to go

Candice's Birthday

A lady with rosy cheeks fair

And abundant and beautiful hair

Had fixed up her garden

‘Twas anything but Spartan

And grew lovely shrubberies there

She lived with her mother and son

And there was no end to the fun

They had all together

In all sorts of weather

From dawn ‘til the day was done

She drew out and sketched up her thoughts

And large trees and flowers she bought

She fixed up backyards

Like picture postcards

Until they looked just as they ought

Her job and her work, they both grew

Until she had so much to do

That she moved to Bermuda

Was as happy as Buddha

And lived to a hundred and two

And on each of those many birthdays

She would celebrate different ways

But the one she remembered

Was the one in December

The most joyful of freezing cold days

They drank tea and ate lovely scones

Prepared and hand-baked at home

And though it was Tiki

They all just had tea

Trader Joe’s swears it was China-grown

So happy birthday to you here and now

We hope that you will recall how

In these long ago times

Of tea, scones and fine wines

We gathered right here and avowed

That Candice was loved for the sake

Of what she gave without thought to the take

And so, on this day,

I am sure we all pray,

This thing ends so that we can eat cake!

Naiad

Naiad, naiad, hear my call

As I watch your waters fall

Leaping lords and queens of all

Naiad, naiad, hear my call

Naiad, naiad, I hear yours

Cataracts on mountains roars

Pounding waves upon the shores

Naiad, naiad, I hear yours

Naiad, naiad, writhe and roil

Over rocks you trip and toil

Here I watch your waters boil

Naiad, naiad, writhe and roil

Naiad, naiad, waters bright

Glinting fountains catch the light

Bubbling, happy through the night

Naiad, naiad, waters bright

Jonathon to Ani

Oh stars and sky and racing Zephyr Breeze
Oh beauty that makes men to weep and shout
Oh wind and crying cranes and bending trees
Oh leave me not with query nor with doubt
All these contained in you are what I see
All these are roiling in the heart of you
All things of bright light and of passion free
All things of freedom, flight and beauty true
Oh look at me with all your wondrous gaze
Oh let your fighting soul find rest in me
For nothing would I try to still your grace
Nor faith that lives in you like windy seas
Oh all that lives for truth and freedom pure
So you are to me, trustworthy and sure
